Riko is about a Butoh dancer I met in Kyoto (Japan) this spring. Butoh is an avant-garde dance form that first appeared in Japan following World War II. It combines dance, theatre, improvisation and influences of Japanese traditional performing arts such as Kabuki and Noh theatre and contains elements of German Expressionist dance.
