Some weeks late I know but we visited the Photobook Festival 5 at Le Bal a few weeks ago and had a grate weekend camping in the rain and looking at some really amazing photobooks.

The first prize for the dummy award was for Dagmar Keller and Martin Wittwer for their book “passengers”.

We’ve been a bit quiet at Photobookshow recently, but behind the scenes its been hectic organising the next series of shows, and we have some exciting news.

Our next two shows C & D will be held this summer, and are being organised in collaboration with Johannes Romppanen, a Finish photographer who we have been working with to lay the foundation for the two linked events.

This call for submissions will close on 18 July 2012, after which William, Kevin, and Johannes will meet up in Brighton to select the books for each show from the same pool of submissions.

Where and when?

C Book Show will be held at the fantastic new premises of Create Studios in Brighton, England.
17 – 19 August 2012

D Book Show will be held at the Finnish Museum of Photography in Helsinki, Finland.
31 August – 2 September 2012

What we are looking for..

Supporting both emerging and established artists, our aim is to raise the profile of artist-led photobooks, with particular focus on self-published or hand-crafted works.

So if you have produced a book we want to see it! Submissions are open to all territories, and we encourage people to submit work which pushes the medium and has maybe not been seen before.

How to submit

We have a new online submission form on the website, where you can enter your details and pay the submission fee of £5 per book securly via paypal.

Please note on the form that you will have the option to post your book to a UK or Finnish address – it doesn’t matter what address you post to.

Once you have registered this information via the website, you will need to post your book to us to arrive before the closeing deadline 18 July 2012.

If you are unable to post your book to us, under some circumstances we will allow PDF submissions. For example, this may be because you have only one copy which is being exhibited elsewhere – please email us first if you would like to do this.

The archive

During the submission process, you will be asked whether you would like your book returned to you or donated to the Photobookshow archive.

Donating your work to the archive makes it available to us for future activities, and will form part of an ongoing open access research & development resource library held at Workflow Studio in Brighton.

We know that many books may be prohibitavly expensive to donate, or the book may be a dummy copy, but we really appreciate the support – thankyou to all of you that have already donated work to us!

HOW TO SUBMIT WORK
To submit a book to C and D Book Shows please fill out the online submission form bellow, pay the £5 submission fee via paypal, and post your book to either the UK or Finland address:

Donating your book to the Photobook Show archive will make it available to us for use in future shows, and as time goes on we may wish to talk about your work on the website or during other events. The archive is held at Workflow Studio in Brighton and is available to the public as a research and development resource alongside its bookmaking facilities.

About us..

Photobook Show is a Brighton-based arts organisation, set up in 2011 by William Sadowski and Kevin Beck to raise the profile of artist-led photobooks, with particular focus on self-published or hand-crafted works. It aims to hold several exhibitions a year, alongside talks and workshops, to promote the visibility of photobooks.

To further increase accessibility of the artform, Photobook Show has established a free library of photobooks for public perusal at Workflow Studio in Brighton alongside its bookmaking facilities. Thank you to everyone that has donated their work to the archive so far.

Sundays panel discussion was organised in collaboration with the Miniclick talks series (miniclick.co.uk).

Our panelists for the day was photographer Ewen Spencer, graphic designer and creator of Oodee publishing house Damien Poulain, Harry Hardie from HERE, and Self Publish Be Happy’s Bruno Ceschel. The discussion was chaired by Diane Smyth, deputy editor at the BJP.
